Why Howard University

A historic research university in our nation's capital

Howard University, a historically black university in Washington, DC, is home to the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration Center for Atmospheric Sciences, a cooperative partnership between six universities, and the Howard University Program in Atmospheric Sciences (HUPAS). HUPAS faculty are recognized for their expertise in mesoscale meteorology, climate modeling, air quality modeling and field observations, atmospheric physics, atmosphere chemistry and mechanical engineering.

During the summer program at Howard University, ASBIGAP scholars will live in comfortable, up-to-date campus housing, with a full meal plan, health coverage, and access to all facilities.

Howard University is located near the U Street corridor, a neighborhood on the National Register of Historic Places and center of Washington's music scene, and is a Metro ride away from the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, Capitol, and other features on the National Mall, museums of the Smithsonian Institution, and myriad other attractions unique to the nation's capital.
